As of January 1st, 2024, OSHA requires certain employers to electronically submit information from their OSHA 300 Log and 301 Incident Report Form.
Who must submit this information?
Employers with 100 or more employees in designated industries with high injury and illness rates must submit this information to OSHA.
What information needs to be submitted?
Submit detailed information for each recordable injury or illness, including:
- The date, physical location, and severity of the injury or illness
- Details about the worker who was injured
- And details about how the injury or illness occurred
How do I submit this information?
Employers cam submit this information through OSHA’s ITA (Injury Tracking Application) by either of the following:
- Manually enter data into a webform
- Upload a CSV file
- Or transmit data electronically via an API (Application Programming Interface)
OSHA is also requiring that establishments include their legal company name when making electronic submissions to OSHA from their injury and illness records.
When do I submit this information?
Employers must submit this information by March 2 of the year after the calendar year covered by the forms.
Example: The deadline to submit the OSHA 300 Log data for the 2024 calendar year is March 2, 2025.
Employers must retain the OSHA 300 Log, the annual summary, and the OSHA Incident Report forms for 5 years following the end of the calendar year that the records cover.
Some organizations who are exempt from reporting due to being a low-hazard industry may include:
- Retail trade
- Finance
- Insurance
- Real estate
- And service industries
This new requirement aims to increase transparency of workplace injuries. It allows employers and the public to make informed decisions on workplace safety and health.
