Fire prevention week begins October 8th through October 14th. This year’s theme for the week is “Cooking Safety Starts with YOU.” The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has different resources for cooking safety including:
- Cooking Safety Tip Sheet – English and Spanish
- Electrical Cooking Appliance Safety Tip Sheet
- Kid-Free Zone Marker
In 1925, President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed Fire Prevention Week a national observance, making it the longest-running public health observance in the United States. This Fire Prevention Week is held during the week of October 9th in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire that began on October 8th.
During Fire Prevention Week, everyone can learn how to stay safe in the event of a fire.
